
In the mountain foothills in west of Littleton is the remarkable Arrowhead Golf Course. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, II, fairways weave thru soaring red sandstone spires. Nothing like it anywhere else. Expensive to play but worth it.

In an abandoned clay mine west of the Coors Brewery in Golden, Colorado architect Jim Engh created Golf Digest's 2003 Best New Public Course in America by running fairways through sandstone cliffs and towers that still show pre-historic dinosaur tracks.

Visitors do not travel to metropolitan Denver to play golf. The busy municipal courses are dominated by resident golfers that master the weekly computerized tee time reservation system, primarily at this rebuilt City Park course.

Although not the famous Castle Pines of the PGA Tour, the nearby Ridge at Castle Pines North is a "Country Club for a Day" designed by Tom Weiskopf and is Troon managed. Fairways drop down rocky ridges and past homes.

In hills above Larkspur 40 miles south of Denver, the course was carved from the pine forest. The signature hole has bunkers resembling a bear paw. The clubhouse houses the offices and museum of the Colorado Section PGA.
